Bihar Diwas (Bihar Day) is celebrated for marking the formation of the state of Bihar. It was on this day when the British carved out the state from Bengal Presidency in 1912. The Day is a public holiday in Bihar.
Bihar Divas was started and celebrated on large scale by Bihar Government in the tenure of Nitish Kumar. Apart from India. ,it is celebrated in countries including the United States, Germany, Britain, Scotland Australia, Canada, Bahrain, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Trinidad and Tobago and Mauritius.
Every year the Government of Bihar issues a notification declaring the 22 March to be a public holiday to be celebrated as Bihar Diwas. This holiday applies to all the offices and companies under the jurisdiction of the State and central Government as well as Schools celebrate this day by organising various programmes participated by students.
In 1911 when the capital of then British India was shifted to Delhi, the Bengal Presidency was split into four sabhas Bengal, Orissa, Bihar and Assam. The Bihar Diwas celebrated on 22nd March. The Day is basically the Brain Child of Nitish Kumar, it was first celebrated in 2010 in large scale and after that this is the official event of Bihar. After the Battle of Buxor, Mughals, as well as the Nawabs of Bengal, lost the effective control over the territories which constituted the province of Bengal, which currently comprises Bangladesh, and the Indian states of West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha. The British East India Company was accorded thethe diwani rights to administer the collection and management of revenues of the province of Bengal
